MUSKEGON — A Spring Lake mother of two got a special Christmas gift Friday courtesy of a group of Muskegon-area automotive repair shops.
Lindsay LaFrance, 28, was driven by limousine to Napa Auto Parts, 891 East Laketon, to pick up a restored 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. The vehicle was restored by eight automotive repair shops, who refer to themselves as the Muskegon Autocare Group.
LaFrance was selected because she was among the participants who submitted a 500-word essay describing why she needed a vehicle. The business owners said LaFrance, who was relying on friends and public transportation, had the greatest need for the vehicle.
Bill Silva, owner of A2Z Service Center in Muskegon Heights, said the group decided to give away the car because it wanted to do something to reward customers and give back to the community.
“There’s so many people in need,” Silva said. We wanted “to pay the community back for helping us all stay in business.”
