Bosch announced that its clean diesel technology is featured on the 2015 Ram 1500, which includes a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 equipped with a Bosch common-rail diesel fuel-injection system.
The Bosch-made injectors can manage multiple highly accurate injections per combustion event, the company says. In addition, Bosch provides the system’s high-pressure pump, sensors, engine control unit and the vehicle’s emission control system.
“The 2015 Ram 1500 features Bosch technologies that assist with offering significant fuel efficiency and affordability. We are dedicated to supplying innovative technologies that provide consumers a better driving experience and allow for more miles between stops at the pump,” said Bernd Boisten, regional president, Diesel Systems North America, Robert Bosch LLC.
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is just one of many new clean diesel vehicles in the North American market.
“Over the past five years the new registrations of clean diesel vehicles have increased more than 16 percent year-over-year in the U.S. and Canada and in 2014 alone there were 16 new diesel launches in North America,” Boisten said. “The diesel share will continue to grow as consumers experience the economic and environmental benefits of clean diesels in real world driving.”
The 2015 Ram 1500 can deliver fuel economy of 29 mpg on the highway, the top rating for any pickup in the U.S., according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Considering the benefits, Bosch experts expect there will be more than 60 clean diesel vehicle models available in the U.S. by the end of 2016.
The 2015 Ram 1500 with the 3.0-liter V6 engine has received “overwhelming consumer demand,” according to FCA, resulting in a 20 percent production increase of the total Ram 1500 production volume – double the initial expectation. Additionally, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 with a Bosch common-rail diesel fuel-injection system was chosen for Ward’s 10 Best Engines for the second time earlier this year.
