Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO, Auto Care Association, recently announced her plans to retire, effective Dec. 31, 2015. Schmatz joined the association in 2002, and was named president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2004 after 30 years with Babcox Media.

Executive Interview: Rusty Bishop, CEO, Federated Auto Parts Distributors

Rusty Bishop began his career in the automotive aftermarket more than 40 years ago when he joined Fisher Auto Parts where he held a number of positions in warehouse and jobber store management and also served as a director of the company. In 1985, Bishop co-founded Federated Auto Parts Distributors, a program marketing group for major warehouse distributors headquartered in Staunton, VA. Through the years, Bishop’s leadership allowed Federated to grow to become one of the leading program groups in the industry.

Jim O’Neill and his Chino, CA-based repair facility, Chino Autotech, have earned enough accreditation to make a cardiologist blush. The shop is an Auto Club of SoCal Approved Auto Repair Facility and an Auto Value Certified Service Center. O’Neill sits on the NASTF Service Information/Communications Committees; he is an ASE CMAT-L1, Calif. Smog Check Technician and an AMI AAM Accredited Automotive Manager. Jim also completed Northwood University’s Leadership 2.0 course in 2009.

Applications are now being accepted online for the 2012 Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) scholarship, awarded to students planning automotive aftermarket careers. The application process is now entirely electronic through the GAAS scholarship website.

New AAPEX Education Sessions Geared for Parts Stores and Repair Shops

Among the 30 education sessions scheduled for the Learning Forum at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX), seven have been designed specifically for parts store and repair shop attendees. All AAPEX education sessions are free-of-charge to everyone and will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 through Thursday, Nov. 4 in Marco Polo Rooms 701-706 on the Venetian/Palazzo Congress Center Level 1 in the Venetian Hotel.
