AMI Accepting Applications For $1,000 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship

The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) is accepting applications for the annual $1,000 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship. AMI’s resource development effort, EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Media, established the scholarship, which is awarded to an Automotive Service Association (ASA) Mechanical Division member who strives to be, or is presently working, in a management capacity.

EPA May Ban Or Restrict Degreaser Use

On March 30, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its intent to seek input from small businesses, non-profit organizations and local governments to formulate a potential rule on the use of Trichloroethylene (TCE). According to the EPA, “TCE is used primarily as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts … closely associated with the metal and automotive industries.” Specifically, the EPA will examine the risks resulting from the manufacture, processing, distribution in commerce, and use of TCE, as well as its manner of disposal.

University Of The Aftermarket Foundation Funds Grant For Wyakin Warrior Foundation

The University of the Aftermarket Foundation has approved a grant of $20,000 for the Wyakin Warrior Foundation to assist with the educational, professional and personal costs faced by two of its warriors who were severely wounded during their military service. Both of the veterans are planning careers in the auto care industry.

Bosch Adds New Part Numbers To Braking, Wiper Lines

Robert Bosch LLC, a leading global supplier of automotive parts to original equipment manufacturers and the independent aftermarket, has announced the addition of five new SKUs for March 2015. The additions have been made to its QuietCast and Bosch Blue Brake Pad lines and Bosch Twin Wiper Blade sets.

House Bill Introduced To Improve Vehicle Safety

U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) has introduced H.R. 1181, the Public Access to Motor Vehicle Safety Information bill. This legislation was introduced partly in response to recent automaker safety issues and airbag defects. Schakowsky said, “Over the past year and a half, we have seen a record number of recalls and far too many serious injuries and deaths. It’s time for stronger driver, passenger, and pedestrian safeguards, and the Vehicle Safety Improvement Act delivers on that need.”
