Michigan Legislation Would Stop Parts Mandates

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) believes the legislation will benefit both consumers and automotive repairers in the state of Michigan. If implemented, this bill would amend the insurance code to prohibit insurers from requiring automotive repairers to use a specific vendor or process to procure parts and other materials, allowing shop owners to do business with the vendors they choose.

California Close To TPMS Legislation

California State Legislature has passed AB 1665, a bill that will require “an automotive repair dealer that repairs tires or changes tires shall be capable of diagnosing and servicing a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in accordance with industry standards if the vehicle is manufactured with the device.”

ASA-Ohio Supports Mechanical Shop Registration Legislation

Ohio state Sens. Edna Brown (D-11), Tom Patton (R-24) and Peggy Lehner (R-6) recently introduced Ohio Senate Bill 232, legislation establishing a mechanical shop registration program in their state. The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor.
