In his letter to Michigan legislators, Gov. Snyder said, “I am unable to sign this bill because it overreaches in the limitation of aftermarket parts negatively impacting consumers and creating the potential for negative consequences for Michigan’s automotive industry.”
MEMA Urges Governor To Veto Michigan Legislation Amending State Motor Vehicle Service And Repair Law
Last week, the Michigan legislature finalized a bill that discourages the use of aftermarket and remanufactured parts used during vehicle repairs. The legislation directs that only Original Equipment (OE) parts can be used for several common categories of vehicle repairs, and would only allow for non-OE parts to be used if the consumer directs a repair facility in writing to use aftermarket parts.
MEMA, Brake Manufacturers Council Submit Comments To California On The Proposed Brake Friction Materials Rule
On Monday, May 23, the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) and the Brake Manufacturers Council (BMC) submitted comments to California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) on its formal proposed rule regarding motor vehicle brake friction materials.
Gary Keyes, Donny Seyfer and Diane Larson, independent repair shop owners, engaged in open discussions at the 2014 General Meeting of the Brake Manufacturers Council (BMC) of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) and the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), held on Nov. 3, just prior to the official opening of the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX).
