On Dec. 2, the Automotive Service Association (ASA), ASA-Midwest and the Missouri Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP-MO) held the second annual Vehicle Safety Inspection Forum. Automotive Service Association Announces Regional Management, Technical Training Programs

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has announced a new initiative designed to bring management and technical training to several regions of the United States in 2016. First up, ASA has scheduled a training event for February in Orlando, Florida. This event will be held in conjunction with ASA’s newest affiliate: ASA-Florida. ASA, Alliance Of Automobile Manufacturers Unveil New Aftermarket Resource

Recently, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Alliance) held a press conference to present a new information resource tool for automobile repairers. U.S. House Committee Holds Hearing On Vehicle Safety

Spurred by the recent spate of major recalls, as well as continued development of new vehicle technologies, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade recently held a hearing titled, “Examining Ways to Improve Vehicle and Roadway Safety.” During the hearing, members addressed a legislative staff discussion draft that detailed strategies to improve vehicle safety.

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) hosted the first Service Repair Leadership Forum (SRLF) during NACE | CARS in July. The program included a segment on periodic motor vehicle inspections. Michigan Legislation Would Stop Parts Mandates

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) believes the legislation will benefit both consumers and automotive repairers in the state of Michigan. If implemented, this bill would amend the insurance code to prohibit insurers from requiring automotive repairers to use a specific vendor or process to procure parts and other materials, allowing shop owners to do business with the vendors they choose.

House Bill Introduced To Improve Vehicle Safety

U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) has introduced H.R. 1181, the Public Access to Motor Vehicle Safety Information bill. This legislation was introduced partly in response to recent automaker safety issues and airbag defects. Schakowsky said, “Over the past year and a half, we have seen a record number of recalls and far too many serious injuries and deaths. It’s time for stronger driver, passenger, and pedestrian safeguards, and the Vehicle Safety Improvement Act delivers on that need.”

ASA/AASA Safety Inspection Forum Reveals Widespread Support For Vehicle Inspection Programs

On Friday, Nov. 14, the Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) hosted a Vehicle Safety Inspection and Maintenance Forum in East Norriton, Pa. The presenters covered a range of topics including the importance of vehicle safety inspection programs in the prevention of crashes, threats to existing programs and potential changes to the program in Pennsylvania and other states.
