It was an all-MOOG chassis parts photo finish in Sunday’s Amp Energy Juice 500 Sprint Cup event at Talladega (AL) Superspeedway, as Clint Bowyer and the #33 BB&T Chevrolet edged out teammate Kevin Harvick by an estimated six inches under a final-lap caution.
Following the race, Steve Letarte, crew chief for the #24 Chevrolet of Jeff Gordon, received Federal-Mogul Corporation’s MOOG “Problem Solver of the Race” Award. It was Letarte’s second MOOG Problem Solver award of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season.
The MOOG Problem Solver award is presented to the crew chief whose car delivers the largest increase in average lap speed during the second half of each Sprint Cup event while finishing on the lead lap. The #24 Chevrolet posted a race-best 0.474-second improvement at Talladega.
“Steve Letarte and the Hendrick Motorsports crew, knowing they had a great-handling car equipped with MOOG chassis parts, played it perfectly today by staying out of trouble and making a push to the front over the last 15 laps,” said Federal-Mogul Motorsports Director Tim Nelson.
With just three races remaining in the 2010 season, Gil Martin, crew chief for Kevin Harvick and the #29 Chevrolet, continues to lead the battle for MOOG “Problem Solver of the Year” honors with four weekly MOOG award wins. Darian Grubb (Tony Stewart, #14 Chevrolet) and Shane Wilson (Clint Bowyer, #33 Chevrolet) are tied for second with three wins apiece.
