When Federated Auto Parts decided to sponsor the Bassmaster Weekend Series, the goal was to drive additional sales for their members. When Ryan McMurtury won the 2010 Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship with a Federated battery in his boat, he received a check for $10,000 as an extra bonus.
“When we got involved with the Bassmaster Weekend Series, our primary objective was to show that Federated could provide the parts and service that any angler would need for his boat or the vehicle that pulls his boat,” said Mike Allen, vice president of Federated Auto Parts. “This Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship promotion was a nice way to help us get the word out to fishing enthusiasts and master anglers about the benefits of Federated batteries. We want to thank our manufacturing partner East Penn for its help with this promotion and all the ongoing support they provide to Federated and our customers.”
McMurtury fished one spot for four days, catching 165 bass. He finished with 20 bass going 69.53 pounds with a 5.2-pound kicker. For the win, McMurtury collected $100,000 from American Bass Anglers plus an extra $10,000 check from Federated Auto Parts and East Penn, which manufactures the Federated marine battery.
Anglers in the 2010 Weekend Series were eligible for great prizes from Federated at the national championships if they used a Federated marine battery in their boat. The grand prize of $10,000 was awarded to the highest-placing finisher using a Federated battery.
